Dietlind Budde

Dietlind Budde is founder, directress and artistic manager of the AlarmTheater. After studying pedagogy at the FH Bielefeld 1975-1979, she received her teaching in acting at the Teatro Nucleo in Ferrara (Italy) under Cora Herrendorf and Horacio Czertok.

As a member of the ensemble, she traveled throughout much of Europe performing in various projects and productions.

In 1993 she founded the AlarmTheater together with her fellow artist and now husband Harald Otto Schmid. They established a place of "culture for everyone" in Bielefeld. Since then, they have been taking theater wherever it is needed; among other places, to the Bielefeld Brackwede correctional facility, to churches, and to national and international venues.

Budde's work is shaped by her nearly thirty years of experience in the field of applied theater. One of her main concerns is to enable people, and especially young people, to initiate self-effective aesthetic processes, to dissolve the role distribution of performers and audience, and at the same time to develop a high artistic level.

Dietlind Budde has three children and three grandchildren.

Harald Otto Schmid

Born and grown up in Ulm Harald studied Educational Theory with diploma at Bielefeld University. After that he began training as actor at the Teatro Nucleo/Italy in 1983. After 10 years as permanent member of the ensemble and numerous productions in European countries, he – together with Dietlind Budde – in 1993 founded the AlarmTheatre in Bielefeld, where he is until now working as artistic director.
