Alice

One day Alice came to a fork in the road:
“Which road do I take?” she asked.
“Where do you want to go?” was the cheshire cat´s
response.
“I don’t know”, Alice answered.
“Then,” said the cat, “it doesn’t matter.”

What happens when the "rules of being a child"
are revoked in a fantastical parallel universe?
When children and young adults gain
power over their own decisions,
when they alone are able to define
who they are and how they want to
develop?

In the play, twelve actors of the
International Youth Ensemble under
the direction of Jonas Theobald slip into the role
of Alice. They face the same challenges
as children and adolescents in a world
that was made by adults, for adults.

In this adaptation of the world-renowned literary
classic "Alice in Wonderland", Alice meets
familiar characters from the literary source, like
the Mad Hatter and the Cheshire Cat,
but also new caricatures of the adult world,
that are inspired by the actor´s own reality.

The multi-media stage installation
helps the audience to take on the
perspective of young people when
looking at the adult society of the
21st century. In some moments,
you will question the ostensible
reasonableness of rules and
guidelines, which, if looked at
closely, border on absurdity -
not only in Alice´s wonderland.
